Description
The ‘Ever Scrapping (Sharjah Yard)’ silk hanging is a collaborative piece of SERAPIS x ASTRONAUTS, and is currently showcased in ALCOVA Miami as part of our newly launched presentation titled Hybris Astern.
The silk piece features a photographic image from SERAPIS’ research visit in Sharjah UAE, linked to their upcoming commissioned artwork for the Sharjah Biennial 16, starting in February 2025. The inkjet printed photograph is part of a series of pictures from scrap yards, underlining details from production, waste and upcycling processes which are recurring themes in the work of SERAPIS. The handmade hydroformed metallic scupltural hooks, drawing inspiration from fishing and maritime gear are made by ASTRONAUTS, in a collaborative effort to create new forms of storytelling and use.
Drawing on the two collectives’ shared maritime references and respective specialisms in metal and textile, the installation ‘Hybris Astern’ features limited-edition furniture and ornaments. Chairs, vases, silk wall hangings, and a mobile pendant embody our textural and photographic narratives, reflected in jacquard upholsteries and digitally printed silks.
